South Australia’s Renmark boasts some of the best natural beauty of the Murray River and is worth a visit, whatever the season.
Nestled on the banks of the Murray River, continuous sun makes Renmark a lovely destination – spring, summer, autumn or winter. Whatever the season, Emma Mullin from the Renmark Paringa Visitor Information Centre has a suggested itinerary for spending a day in Renmark.
11am : visit Olivewood, the original home of the Chaffey Brothers who established Australia’s first irrigation colony in Renmark.
12.00pm : see Ruston’s Rose Garden,the largest Rose Garden in the Southern Hemisphere. Featuring a vintage car museum, gift shop and café, it is located at 70 Moorna Street.
1.45pm : board the Barrangul Cruises houseboat style river cruise, departing from Renmark Wharf at 2pm. This one hour cruise includes a Devonshire tea for $30pp.
3.00pm : then climb aboard the historic PS Industry located on the Renmark Riverfront in front of the Visitor Information Centre.
3.30pm : take a look at Lock 5 – where river heights are regulated on Lock 5 Road Paringa.
4.00pm : drive out to Heading’s Cliff Lookout where you will overlook the golden limestone cliffs and the beautiful Murray River – it’s a fantastic photo opportunity. Located on Murtho Road, Paringa – 13km from Paringa.
